What are the signs to look for that someone is being radicalised?
There is no ONE SIZE FITS ALL answer to this. Every person is different. People of any AGE, of any (or no) FAITH, ETHNICITY, or BACKGROUND can be vulnerable.
CONTRIBUTING FACTORS can include:
– Associating with those who hold extremist views
– A sense of grievance or injustice
– Desire for political change
– Beginning to express extreme political or radical views
– Changing friends or spending excess time alone or on the internet
– Mental health issues
– Undergoing a period or transition or disruption in life
Many of these are the same factors that make an individual vulnerable to other harmful influences too
Why should I share my concerns?
By sharing your concerns you can ensure the right support is put into place to help an individual at risk of radicalisation. Doing so can prevent them becoming involved in potentially violent activities, long before any criminal activity occurs.
Prevent is about safeguarding ourselves, our families and our communities.
Report Concerns

What will happen after I report my concerns?
An assessment would be made to consider if the individual is vulnerable to being drawn into terrorism or supporting terrorist related activity. Relevant and appropriate support mechanisms would be offered to the individual in order to keep them, families, friends and communities safe.
Support from the Channel Panel programme may be offered to the individual. This is a multi-agency safeguarding process which works to protect vulnerable people from being drawn into terrorism by considering the best way to support individuals, put plans in place and try to draw them away from extremism.
