Report Concerns

Signs to look out for

Radicalisation is a process and can vary greatly between individuals. Every individual is unique and there is no specific timeframe within which the radicalisation process progresses.

The radicalisation process may lead to a number of observable behaviours being displayed by a vulnerable individual:

  • Depressed
  • Withdrawn
  • Change of routine
  • Social isolation
  • Inappropriate questions
  • Absenteeism
  • Change in language
  • New circle of friends
  • Intolerance
  • Fixation on a subject

This is not an exhaustive list and any number of these behaviours being observed may be indicative of another safeguarding concern, not only terrorism.

Why should I share my concerns?

By sharing your concerns you can ensure the right support is put into place to help an individual at risk of radicalisation or to help people who have already engaged in terrorism to disengage and rehabilitate.

Prevent is about safeguarding ourselves, our families and our communities.

How to Report Concerns

What will happen after I report my concerns?

An assessment would be made to consider if the individual is susceptible and/ or vulnerable to being drawn into terrorism or supporting terrorist related activity. Relevant and appropriate support mechanisms would be offered to the individual in order to keep them, families, friends and communities safe.

Support from the Channel Panel programme may be offered to the individual. This is a multi-agency safeguarding process which works to protect susceptible and/ or vulnerable people from being drawn into terrorism by considering the best way to support individuals, put plans in place and try to draw them away from extremism.

The Act Early Support Line is aimed at friends and family members who are concerned that their loved ones are vulnerable to, or being drawn into, radicalisation. It is for friends and family or others for whom no other referral pathway exists – statutory partners should continue to use existing established referral pathways and not the Act Early Support Line.

Callers to the Act Early Support Line can make a referral or receive further support and guidance regarding their concerns.  More information is available here:
